The Rutgers–Camden Center for the Arts‘ (RCCA) exhibition, Alonzo Adams: These Eyes Have Seen, will be available for viewing at the Stedman Gallery starting Tuesday, September 3, 2024, and closing Saturday, November 16, 2024. Join us on Thursday, September 26, from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. for the official Opening Reception.
Other scheduled events include “Picturing Community: Alonzo Adams and Mercy Romero in Conversation,” on Thursday, October 10, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m., and the Closing Reception and Artist Talk on Friday, November 15, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Alonzo Adams is a contemporary realist figurative painter and Rutgers alumnus. Adams’ paintings depict local subjects, as well as subjects from his travels to the Caribbean and Africa, to offer a profound exploration of Black identity and racial justice.
Adams (b. 1961) is a painter raised in Plainfield, New Jersey. He earned a BFA from Rutgers-New Brunswick, Mason Gross School of the Arts in 1984 and an MFA from University of Pennsylvania in 1991. His work has been featured in many venues, including Howard University, the Senate Building in Washington, D.C., and the Studio Museum in Harlem. In 2004, Adams was one of the first inductees into the Rutgers African American Alumni Alliance’s Hall of Fame.
