The Department of Fine Arts will end its Spring 2019 Visiting Artists Program, “Young and Active,” on Tuesday, March 26. This lecture series will feature nationally and internationally acclaimed artists present lectures about their work, professional practices, and their perspectives on contemporary art and design.

Shaun Leonardo, a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, has had his work featured in the Guggenheim Museum, among other prestigious venues. His work negotiates societal expectations of manhood, namely definitions surrounding black and brown masculinities, along with its notions of achievement, collective identity, and experience of failure. His performance practice is participatory in nature and invested in a process of embodiment, promoting the political potential of attention and discomfort as a means to disrupt meaning and shift perspective.

The lecture will take place on Tuesday, March 26, from 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building, Room 110.  This event is free and open to the public.
