The Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish program will present its fifth lecture series in applied linguistics on Wednesday, October 11th.  Eduardo Negueruela-Azzarola of the University of Navarra in Spain will be the guest speaker.  His lecture, “Sociocultural Psychology for the L2 Classroom,” will discuss the main tenets of Sociocultural Psychology, applied to the teaching and learning of second languages.  The lecture will propose that a Mindful Conceptual Engagement approach (explicit focus on meaning) is required by L2 learners to develop a complete understanding over complex categories of meaning.  Data of a representative selection of beginning L2 Spanish learners as well as pedagogical issues related to classroom teaching will be presented.

This free event, which begins at 6 p.m. in Armitage Hall, Room 123, is open to all.  Contact Dr. Próspero García for additional information.
