As part of this year’s The Big Read, which features Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms, the Rutgers–Camden Center for the Arts will offer a speaker series.  Dr. Tyler Hoffman, Professor of English and chair of the English department, will present “Ernest Hemingway and the Art of Composition,” on Tuesday, September 30th, at 12:15 p.m. in the Black Box Theater.

Dr. Hoffman’s lecture will explore two key stylistic devices that structure Hemingway’s writing: repetition and omission. He also will reveal what Hemingway learned from Gertrude Stein in Paris about literary method, what future minimalist writers learned from him, and what all of this has to do with icebergs.
