Dr. Joan Maya Mazelis (assistant professor, CFAS-sociology) presented a paper, “Sustainable Ties: Social Support among the Poor” at the American Sociological Association Annual Meeting in August, 2013, in New York. She also presented “We Are the 99 Percent: The Rise of Poverty and the Decline of Poverty Stigma” at the American Sociological Association Annual Meeting and at the Society for the Study of Social Problems Annual Meeting with former student and Rutgers-Camden graduate, Brendan M. Gaughan (CFAS ’11). Both papers will appear in the Routledge Handbook on Poverty in the United States, due to be published in 2014.
