Juanita Byrd (CCAS’92) is a Business Manager at the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. She is the Chair of the Young Alumni Engagement Committee of the Rutgers University–Camden Alumni Association and a member of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. Juanita is also a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  She earned a BA in Political Science from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences. Juanita resides in Lindenwold, NJ.

Hazzaouri & Associates

Roy Denmark, Jr (CCAS’71 & GSNB’75) is a Consultant for Hazzouri & Associates, a public strategies firm that represents clients’ interests at all levels of government in PA, NJ, DE, and MD. Previously, he was a Vice President and General Manager at Urban Engineers a multi-discipline engineering firm in Philadelphia, PA (2011-2018). Roy spent most of his professional career with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District serving as the Chief Regulatory Branch (1977-1981), Chief Environmental Resources Branch (1981-1991), Chief Operations Division (1998-2008), and Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management from 2008 until his retirement from the Federal Government in2011). He also worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region III (1991-1998) serving in numerous positions including Deputy Director of the Office of Environmental Programs.  He is a member of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Historic Fort Mifflin, Inc. the Seamen’s Church Institute of Philadelphia and South Jersey, the Society of American Military Engineers, Philadelphia Post and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.  Roy earned a BA in Biology from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences and an MS from Rutgers Graduate School of New Brunswick. Roy is a member of the founding class for the graduate biology program at the Rutgers–Camden campus. Roy and his wife, Judy Hykel, reside in Blue Bell, PA.


Emeritus Professor
University of Michigan

Robert Fishman is an emeritus professor of architecture and urban planning at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. From 1974 to 2000 Professor Fishman taught history at Rutgers–Camden, specializing in evening education and the non-traditional student, first as a faculty member and then Interim Dean of University College–Camden, and subsequently as a member of the CCAS history department. He has authored several books that are regarded as seminal texts on the history of cities and urbanism, including Bourgeois Utopias: The Rise and Fall of Suburbia and Urban Utopias in the Twentieth Century: Ebenezer Howard, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Le Corbusier. His honors include the 2009 Laurence Gerckens Prize for lifetime achievement from the Society for City and Regional Planning History; the 2010 Walker Ames Lectureship at the University of Washington; the Emil Lorch Professorship at Taubman College from 2006 to 2009; the Public Policy Scholars Program at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. in 1999; and the Cass Gilbert Professorship at the University of Minnesota in 1998. Fishman has held visiting professorships at the Paris Nanterre University; the University of Pennsylvania; and Columbia University. Robert is a member of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. He received his Ph.D. and MA in history from Harvard University and his BA in history from Stanford University. He currently resides in Long Branch, NJ.


Retired

Prior to his July 2022 retirement, Dr. Walter “Walt” MacDonald (CCAS’74, GSNB’83) was the President and CEO of Educational Testing Service (ETS), a nonprofit educational research organization, which conducts educational research and develops, administers, and scores more than 50 million educational tests worldwide. Prior to being named President and CEO in 2014, Walt served as ETS’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Walt worked for ETS for 38 years after joining the company in 1984 as an assessment specialist with an expertise in science.  He joined the Rutgers Board of Trustees in July 2021.  He is also on the Rutgers–Camden Board of Directors.  Walt has been named one of Rutgers–Camden Finest, which recognizes graduates whose lives and careers have made an indelible mark upon society and the advancement of knowledge. He is a member of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. Walt graduated from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences with a BA in Biology in 1974. He later received his PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers Graduate School of New Brunswick in 1983.

Office of Christine Shubert

Christine Shubert is a private practice Attorney who is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and is admitted to the U.S. District Courts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Christine has practiced law since 1980, with a concentration in bankruptcy. She has served as a Chapter 7 panel and Chapter 11 Bankruptcy trustee in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware since 1986. During the early years of her practice, Christine was active in the representation of consumer debtors in bankruptcy. In recent years, her practice has primarily focused on her duties as a bankruptcy trustee. Christine has been a frequent speaker for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and has participated in Bankruptcy Trustee training throughout her career. She is a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and has also frequently served as a mentor for newly appointed Bankruptcy Trustees in Pennsylvania. She currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Rutgers–Camden Institute for Leadership and Action and the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council.  Christine graduated from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences in 1976 with a BA in Political Science and went on to earn her JD from The Delaware Law School of Widener College (now Widener University). Christine and her husband, Edward, reside in Ocean City, NJ.

Daniel Swartley-McArdle (CCAS’09 & GSC’13) is a Senior Specialist in Project Planning and Data Management at Merck. Prior to Merck, Daniel was an OC Equipment Scientist at Eurofins PSS Insourcing Solutions, a Senior Business Analyst at Atlas, and a Life Science R&D Consultant at CGI. Daniel has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Cumberland County College, Camden County College, Temple University, and Rowan University. He was a Senate Intern for the United States Senate from 2012-2013. He is a member of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. Daniel earned a BA in biology from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences, an MS in Biology from Rutgers Graduate School–Camden, a MS in Management from Wilmington University and a PhD in Health Science from A.T. Still University.  Daniel resides in Conshohocken, PA.

Joanne Tanhauser (CCAS’93) is Vice President and Strategic Human Resources Business Partner, where she partners with senior leadership to design executive workforce plans and organizational development strategies. Previously, she was with ERT where she worked her way up to Senior Director and Strategic Human Resource Business Partner. She is a member of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. Joanne earned a BA in Psychology from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences and an MBA from Widener University. Joanne and her husband, Joseph, reside in Chalfont, PA.

Sixers Youth Foundation

Leslie Walker (CCAS’86) is the Executive Director of the Sixers Youth Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of the basketball team the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to the Sixers Youth Foundation, Leslie was the Interim Director and Chief of Staff at the Free Library of Philadelphia. Previously, she was Vice President of the Visitor Experience and Programs at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, PA, having worked her way up as Director of Community Programs and Partnerships. She is a member of the Rutgers–Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council.  She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, where she serves on the Governance Committee, and the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, where she is Co-chair of Camden Funders Affinity Group. Leslie earned a BA in Urban Studies from Rutgers–Camden College of Arts and Sciences in 1986 and an MS from Saint Joseph’s University in Training and Organizational Development. Leslie currently resides in Philadelphia, PA.
