The Department of History will host a Lees Seminar on Friday, February 28. Dr. Keith Green, Associate Professor of English, will present a chapter from his in-progress book, Plymouth’s Paradox: Christianity and Bondage in Plymouth’s First Church, 1708-1793. His presentation is titled, “Something Akin to Freedom: Richard Gunderway Presents His Afro-Native Daughters for Baptism, 1708-.” Dr. Rebecca Goetz, Associate Professor of History at New York University, will comment. This event is part of the campus’ celebration of Black History Month.

The seminar will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on Friday, February 28, in the first-floor seminar room of 429 Cooper Street, Camden, NJ.

Advance reading of the pre-circulated chapter is expected of all attendees. To register and obtain a copy of the chapter, reach out to Dr. Evan Jewell, Assistant Professor of History, at evan.jewell@rutgers.edu by 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 27.

The Lees Seminar was endowed by Dr. Andrew Lees, Distinguished Professor of History, to promote research in and beyond the Department of History at Rutgers-Camden. Scholars present cutting-edge research in progress as a pre-circulated paper. Seminars open with a brief comment followed by discussion and a reception.
