In conversation with the Digital Studies Center and the Department of English and Communication, the Writers House welcomes author and game designer Dr. Claire Stricklin, who will be reading from and discussing her work-in-progress, Dio. This experimental project was inspired by the “sketching” techniques of Jack Kerouac in Visions of Cody. It is equal parts trans memoir, exploration of personal spiritual belief, and tabletop roleplaying game.
Claire Stricklin is a Assistant Teaching Professor of English & Communication at Rutgers University–Camden. Her teaching and her research are both centered on storytelling in hybrid environments. By examining the shifts in emergent behavior that appear when play moves from the analog to the digital world, her work seeks to articulate the complex relationships that form between people, formal systems, and networks of power.
In Conversation is a brown-bag, salon-style series dedicated to highlighting creative work that spans multiple disciplines.
