The Department of Visual, Media, and Performing Arts will host artist Cat Balco on Thursday, December 2, as part of the Visiting Artist Program. This program allow nationally and internationally acclaimed visual artists to visit our campus to present lectures about their work and professional practices. Visiting artists have a chance to meet with the students and larger Rutgers University–Camden community to continue the dialogue about perspectives on contemporary art and design. The focus of the Fall 2021 lecture series is Abstraction.
All lectures are free and open to the public and will be held from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm (free period) in the Fine Arts Building, Room 110.
About Cat Balco
Cat Balco has exhibited her work at venues including Rick Wester Fine Art, NYC; Pulse Art Fair, Miami; The Painting Center, NYC; and Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT. Her essays and art criticism have been published in Art New England. Her visiting artist invitations include: The University of Wisconsin, The Maine College of Art, Swarthmore College, Pratt Institute, and Yale University. Balco has received residencies and awards from organizations including The Provincetown Art Association and Museum, The Berkshire Taconic Foundation, The Albers Foundation, and The Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
Balco’s work has been collected by institutions including Credit Suisse, Fidelity Bank, and The State of Connecticut. Balco received a B.A. and an M.F.A. from Yale University and is an Associate Professor of Painting at the University of Hartford. Her second solo show of paintings at Rick Wester Fine Art in NYC will open in the Fall of 2021.
